In your final year before moving on from teaching it might be worth thinking about taking on examining and moderating work for as many exam boards as possible. Most of this work will carry on for years to come. It is possible to earn £5000 a year from marking and moderation work.
Apply to every exam board you can find. There are exams in November for schools abroad who follow UK syllabuses, These can give you marking at Christmas. Apply to MEG for work on the externally marked Year 10 component of their GCSE papers, in July, as well as for the rump of the marking in June.
Private tuition is another teaching related income source which it is a good idea to think about in this final year of teaching. Just post an ad in the classified ads section of your local paper. Your students will give you referrals next year and you will probably never have to advertise again. You can earn £20 – £30 an hour visiting students’ homes to give one to one tuition.
Only use a tuition agency if you are absolutely desperate for work, they pay much less and are a lot more trouble
